What's On

In addition to Sunday worship a wide range of events and activities take place throughout the week. Changes in worship times occur from time to time and many ‘one-off’ activities take place. These are publicised in the church newsletter and, increasingly, on our Facebook page.

Please note that, Sunday services excepted, not all these events and activities take place every week. Please check the church calendar or the person responsible the activity for further information.

Coronavirus updates

04 July 2020
Some good news!! We’re delighted to tell you that, as part of plans to open the church back up after lockdown, we’re opening church up on a limited basis for private prayer. So over the next four weeks church will open as follows:
Thursday 9 July 1pm – 3pm
Thursday 16 July 5pm – 7pm
Thursday 23 July 1pm – 3pm
Thursday 30 July 5pm – 7pm
Sounds great doesn’t it?
Well not exactly! Because it won’t be church as we know it! We’ve followed government and Methodist Church guidance and taken every effort to keep you safe as we get used to meeting again.
  • There’ll be a one-way system through the church – in via the front door out through the youth hall. Please don’t arrive and congregate before 1pm as the doors will not be opened until then. The automatic door and lift will be available for anyone who needs them to enter the church
  • To keep a safe social distance, we’ll only able to have a maximum of 12-13 people in the building at any one time. So,
    • You may need to queue
    • You will be guided to your seat
    • Your time will be limited to around 15 minutes
  • No hymn or prayer books will be available
  • There will be no access to the toilet facilities
  • You will need to leave the building as soon as you have come to the end of your prayer time.
Stewards will ensure that the church is suitably sanitised and safe. They will be wearing face coverings and, if you have one, it will reassure others if you wear it too as it is an enclosed area.
Baby steps to keep everyone safe! We’ll keep arrangements under review as things change. All other activities within the church are still cancelled  until further notice and we urge everybody to follow the government’s instructions.

We have well developed arrangements through our pastoral visitors to maintain phone contact with people, and help to support including shopping for provisions, collections of prescriptions etc without physical contact. Volunteers helping in this way have been approved by church council and subject to DBS clearance checks. This helps to ensure any vulnerable person is fully protected. Pastoral visitors will ensure that everyone is kept informed about what is happening

In the meantime we are ‘doing church’ in different ways. We are uploading weekly acts of worship to our YouTube channel Great Ayton Methodist Church YouTube Channel for you to take part in. Each time a new act is uploaded a link will be posted on the church’s Facebook page and shared by email to those people who receive the weekly newsletter in this way. The church secretary is working from home and producing an email newsletter every week. Please email her with any news, stories or matters for the newsletter.

Audio CDs of Sunday services are available. If you know someone who would like to hear our online services but does not have the facilities to watch, email gamc.help@gmail.com and we’ll arrange to contact the person and deliver a CD to them. Pastoral visitors are speaking to people about this to make sure that everyone knows there are available.

Some house groups are continuing to meet in various ways including some meeting online using video conferencing platforms,

While we wait patiently and trustingly on the Lord what can you do in the meantime? Don’t panic, follow expert advice, pray and help those in need of support. If you need to self-isolate, tell someone so they can help get you what you need. Contact your pastoral visitor and we can arrange support in whatever form you need. If you need help or support or have a need for prayer you can email us on gamc.help@gmail.com. This is a confidential service.

‘The Lord will rescue me from every evil attack and will bring me safely to His Heavenly Kingdom.’ 2 Timothy 4 v18

Rev Lisa and Andy’s sponsored tandem ride.

On 27 June, Rev Lisa and Andy completed their sponsored tandem ride in aid of Teesside Hospice. They cycled around 27 miles (in meed weather!!!) past all the six churches in Stokesley Methodist Circuit! This also provided a ‘socially distant’ chance to say farewell to people across the circuit before they depart for Sheffield in August. Their heroic efforts raised around £4,500 when Gift Aid is taken into account!

An amazing achievement and a great testimony to Lisa and Andy’s generous and thoughtful natures! We will miss them!

You can donate until 7 July 2020 by visiting their JustGiving page.

House groups

House groups follow a set programme of topics following the themes that were preached on in the previous Sunday’s sermon. House groups vary greatly in their composition, style and the way they tackle the study material. However, all are friendly, supportive and are a great way of getting to know people and finding your place within the church. Ideas and visions arising from house groups are a major source of the mission work undertaken by the church. Anyone who would like more information about a particular house group, house groups in general or to join a group should contact Jeanette Hardy, the worship portfolio leader on 01642 714799.
